Frequently Asked Questions

Does lavender come back every year?

Lavender is a perennial so it goes dormant during the winter season and the leaves will turn a silvery-gray until mid-March when they green up again.

Can we take pictures on the farm? What do you charge for a sitting fee?

Amateur/Personal Use photography is allowed at no charge during public operating hours.  Professional Photography must complete a contract/release and schedule a private photo shoot at the farm in advance.  A $35 facilities fee is currently required.

Do you have to pay to enter the farm?

Quiet Hills Lavender Farm is FREE to visit.  We hope that you find something that piques your interest in our Gift Shop however, as the proceeds from our Gift Shop operation allow us to continue our dream of developing Quiet Hills Lavender Farm.

Are dogs allowed on the farm?

Dogs are allowed at Quiet Hills provided they are leashed, under owners control at all times, and any messes are cleaned up prior to leaving.

Can we dig up the lavender?

Lavender is a shrub above the ground but is much more tree like under the ground.  As a result, it has a very long tap root that makes it difficult to transplant/dig up mature, full grown plants.  Once planted in our fields, the lavender plants are not ‘dug up’ for sale.  We do sell a limited amount of smaller potted lavender plants every spring until late June. (Lavender plants should be planted by late June).

When is the best time to visit the farm?

We are working on making anytime from early June thru September a GREAT time to visit Quiet Hills.  By planting different varieties, we are hoping to have lavender in bloom from early June until mid-September.  Currently, our biggest fields bloom in late June through July.

What are your hours?

We generally have weekend hours, Sat. & Sun. 11am to 2pm.  We are always open by appointment, just contact us to set up a personal visit.  Additionally, we update our weekly hours on Facebook.

Is the farm wheelchair accessible?

Our farm is just like any other farm, lots of OPEN area, but not paved.  Our gift shop is currently not wheelchair accessible but we are more than willing to ‘bring the shop outside’ to our wheelchair-bound visitors.

Do you sell lavender plants? What varieties?

We do sell a limited number of lavender plants in the spring only.(May-late June)  Varieties vary each year but could include the Lavendula x. Intermedia varieties ‘Phenomenal’, ‘Sensational’, ‘Grosso’ as well as Lavendula Angustifolia varieties ‘Munstead’, ‘Hidcote’, ‘Super Blue’.

How do I take care of my lavender plant?

The MOST important way to care for your lavender is to carefully choose a proper location to plant it.  SUN SUN SUN!  Full sun(more than 8 hours a day) is absolutely required for success.  Additionally, planting in good draining soil or on a raised bed is equally important as lavender does not like to have ‘wet feet’.  Do Not OVERWATER your lavender.  In fact, under normal climate conditions, you shouldn’t have to water your lavender at all.  Last but not least, prune your lavender plants into a nice, neat mound in September to promote a healthy plant that will survive the winter and give you many years of enjoyment.

How long do fresh cut bouquets last?

Fresh cut lavender will start drying almost immediately after harvest.  It will maintain its color as long as it is kept out of sunlight.  The stems will gradually dry over a week.  The wonderful aroma will remain for years.

Can I bring food on the farm?

We do not have any restrictions on food.  If you do bring food on to the farm, please make sure you cleanup after yourself.  Alcohol is not allowed at the farm.  We have had several visitors bring picnic lunches and enjoy the beauty of Quiet Hills under a shady tree.
